Tragic Death of Devvrat Khichi (Batch 1990)

Major Devvrat Singh Khinchi's mortal remains brought to Bhopal

The mortal remains of Major Devvrat Singh Khinchi were brought to Bhopal on Wednesday morning by a special aircraft and were taken to his native Khilchipur town where his last rights were performed. Major Devvrat Singh Khinchi was posted with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Ethiopia where he died after suffering from brain hemorrhage two days ago. Former Chief Minister and AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh and his wife Asha Singh accompanied the body from Mumbai.

A large number of Army personnel were present at the Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal when the mortal remains of the Major were brought from Mumbai by a special aircraft. The Army personnel placed ceremonial wreaths on the body and paid their last respects. The body was then taken by road to Khilchipur town in Rajgarh district where the last rites were performed on Wednesday morning.

Speaking to media persons at the airport, Digvijay Singh described the late Major as a true patriot. The void left behind by him would be difficult to fill," he said.

Major Devvrat Singh Khinchi was alumni of the Daly College, Indore and was serving with the UN Peacekeepers in Ethiopia. He is survived by his wife and daughter. Major Devvrat Singh was a scion of the erstwhile ruling family of Khilchipur. His younger brother is a member of the State Assembly.

I did not know him nor did i ever meet him.But his duty,devotion makes me admire him.The welham community is proud of him.

Shell shocked to hear about Devvrat. Just when we were starting to get together after so many years. The last get together I inquired about him to Rajiv Lath, and when I opened the website to register I was devastated to read about him. May god give his family the strength to get through this difficult time. God bless.
